The assistance includes an economic development grant equal to 50% of the increased taxes paid by the company on an $8 million +/- investment for a period of three (3) years and the creation of 20 additional jobs over the same 3-year period. The Board of Commissioners believe the project will stimulate economic activity, will result in the creation of additional jobs, help stabilize and increase the tax base and create additional revenues in the County. These waters are proposed to be reclassified to the Class Water Supply-IV (WS-IV) classification, including the Critical Area (CA) and Protected Area (PA) designations. This reclassification is needed to construct a new water supply intake in Lake James that McDowell County intends to use. A public hearing is going to be conducted in order to receive public comments on the proposed reclassification and associated fiscal note.</p>

Day and night shift crews are continuing burn-out operations, mop up, and patrolling the fire lines.</li></ul><ul><li>A community meeting is schedule for Thursday, November 17th at 7 p.m. at the Enola Fire Department and will be recorded and posted to the Burke County website and social media pages. </li></ul><ul><li>Firefighters would like to thank the community for their overwhelming generosity with countless donations of water, gatorade, snacks and other useful items. Thank you cards are also appreciated. </li></ul><ul><li>Active resources on the fire are up to 214 personnel, 24 engines and 4 dozers. </li></ul>

Chestnut Knob Firehttp://www.burkenc.org/2016chestnutknobfire/Chestnut Knob FireChestnut Knob Fire<p><span aria-hidden="true"></span>The Chestnut Knob Fire was discovered on South Mountains State Park on Sunday, November 6, 2016.  The cause of this fire is undetermined and currently under investigation.</p><p>The North Carolina Forest Service, North Carolina State Parks, and the Burke County Fire Marshal's Office and Emergency Management assembled crews to work on containing the fire. Due to extremely dry conditions and rugged terrain, the fire has grown significantly and is currently estimated to be 1961 acres.</p>

The Burke County Fire Marshal’s Office expands the ban to inside the 100 foot boundary surrounding an occupied dwelling effective at 8 AM today. The expanded ban does exclude cooking fires in an outdoor grill or smoker. Violators could face civil penalties and liabilities from the NC Forest Service.</font></p>
