In an effort to promote fair housing and that the rights of housing discrimination victims are protected, Burke County<strong> </strong>has adopted the following procedures for receiving housing discrimination complaints:</p><ol><li>Any person or persons wishing to file a complaint of housing discrimination in the county may do so by informing the<strong> </strong>county manager of the facts and circumstance of the alleged discriminatory acts or practice.</li><li>Upon receiving a housing discrimination complaint, the county manager shall acknowledge the complaint within <span style="text-decoration:underline;"><em>15 days in writing</em></span> and   inform the Division of Water Infrastructure and the North Carolina Human Relations Commission about the complaint. </li><li>The county manager shall offer assistance to the Commission in the investigation and reconciliation of all housing discrimination complaints which are based on events occurring in the Burke County. </li><li>The County Administrator shall publicize in the local newspaper, with the TDD#, who is the local agency to contact with housing discrimination complaints.</li></ol>

The Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting on December 19, 2017 passed a resolution declaring the opioid crisis a public nuisance which must be abated for the benefit of Burke County and its residents and citizens and signed a contract with a large number of law firms throughout the southeastern United States to file civil litigation in the courts. </p>

Neighbors reported they were unable to make contact with the homeowner.
