Friday, February 2, 2018-New Fraud Detection Notification Systemhttp://www.burkenc.org/departments/register-of-deeds/Friday, February 2, 2018-New Fraud Detection Notification SystemFriday, February 2, 2018-New Fraud Detection Notification System
The Burke County Register of Deeds is eager to announce the implementation a Fraud Detection Notification Service and it is FREE!

The Fraud Detection Notification Service is an early warning system to alert property owners of any activity occurring in their registered name at the Register of Deeds office.

According to the FBI, Property and Mortgage Fraud is one of the fastest growing, white collar crime in the United States. A criminal will record a fraudulent deed, making it appear as if they own your property. Then, they can use your property as collateral on a mortgage or even worse – attempt to sell your property to an unsuspecting buyer.

It's easy to sign up. Just go to the Register of Deeds' website at http://www.burkenc.org/departments/register-of-deeds, click on Fraud Detection Notification Service on the left hand side of the web-page, click on the link and then enter your name, email address, and one or more names that you wish for the service to monitor. A confirmation email will be sent to you upon completion. Once you receive the confirmation email, click the link in the email to activate your Fraud Detection Request. The service monitors the daily recordings and sends you an e-mail notification when a document is recorded in the Burke County Register of Deeds office that matches the name you entered.

Mrs. Norman states "Being proactive is the best way we can help protect our citizens against property fraud. Although the service will not prevent property fraud, it can act as an early warning system to property owners that fraudulent activity may be occurring, so they can quickly react and take appropriate action if fraudulent activity is suspected. Most importantly, it can give property owners peace of mind. We encourage all property owners to sign up for this FREE service."

Monday, January 22, 2018-PLAT E-RECORDING SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE AT BURKE COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS. http://www.burkenc.org/departments/register-of-deeds/Monday, January 22, 2018-PLAT E-RECORDING SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE AT BURKE COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS.Monday, January 22, 2018-PLAT E-RECORDING SERVICE NOW AVAILABLE AT BURKE COUNTY REGISTER OF DEEDS.
Plat e-recording service is now available in Burke County, N.C., enabling land surveyors to quickly and cost-effectively record plats online with the Register of Deeds.

Traditionally, plat recording consisted of obtaining signatures from the County Reviewer and the land owners. The land surveyor certified the plat and then submitted the original Mylar document to the Register of Deeds office in person or by using a mail delivery system.

ERecording allows land surveyors to email an electronic copy to the County Reviewer and land owners to electronically review and sign. This saves the land surveyor from having to drive to each individual to have the plat reviewed and signed in person. Then using Simplifile's secure, web-based service, land surveyors can scan or upload and submit plats directly to the Register of Deeds office. In minutes, the plats are reviewed, stamped, recorded, and returned back to the land surveyor electronically.

Recording fees and payments can also be processed securely through Simplifile, helping to reduce payment errors and eliminate check-writing expenses for the land surveyors and their customers.

In addition to easier access and convenience for land surveyors and their customers, the Register of Deeds office also benefits from e-recording plats. Those benefits include but are not limited to the following:

Customers have greater choice of financial institutions to deal with both on a local and national basis.

Reduces document errors and rejections.

Eliminates or reduces mailing and other document delivery costs, as well as reduces delivery delays or document loss.

Improves document recording turn-around time

Reduces redundancy

Improves office efficiencies-streamline document workflow process

Enhances document security

"One of the goals I have had since becoming Register is completing the modernization of our office practices, particularly through the increased use of technology," said Burke County Register of Deeds Stephanie A. Norman. "By partnering with Simplifile and local land surveyors, we have the ability to accept plats for recording electronically. This process is faster, helps expedite resolving any errors in documents submitted to our office, and requires no new taxpayer dollars to implement. This is a great benefit and is convenient for the customers and the citizens of Burke County."

Burke County is the first county in its District to start e-recording plats. They join only eight other counties in the state to e-record plats.

Mrs. Norman added her thanks to everyone who collaborated on making this project a reality. "I would like to thank the Secretary of State's Office, our Information Technology Department, our Community Development Department, and especially our surveyors for working together to make this happen. This allows everyone involved to serve our citizens more efficiently and effectively."

For more information about e-recording plats in Burke County, call 828-764-9340.
