Burke County is governed b
y a five-member Board of Commissioners, elected at large to serve four-year terms. Terms are staggered so that, every two years, three or four commissioner seats are up for election.
The Burke County Board of Commissioners’ pre-agenda meetings (agenda setting work sessions) are held on the first (1st) Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the County Board Room, Burke County Services Building, Door E, 110 N. Green Steet in Morganton, N.C. Pre-agenda meetings are open to the public for observation and they are streamed live on YouTube at BurkeCountyNC. The Burke County Board of Commissioners’ regular meetings are held on the third (3rd) Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. in the County Board Room, Burke County Services Building, Door E, 110 N. Green Steet in Morganton, N.C. Regular meetings are open to the public, include a public comment period (Informal Public Comments) and they are streamed live on YouTube at BurkeCountyNC. Public Comment Period:
Citizens may address the Board of Commissioners for up to 3 minutes each during the Informal Public Comments portion of the regular meeting. To participate, please complete a “speaker’s card” and submit it to the Clerk before the meeting convenes or click here to pre-register with the Clerk. A speaker’s time cannot be extended without a majority vote by the Board of Commissioners and a speaker’s time cannot be transferred to another speaker.
In accordance with ADA (American Disabilities Act) regulations, anyone needing an accommodation to participate in a meeting should notify the County Manager’s office at 828-764-9350 at least 48 hours prior to the meeting.
