Maternity Clinic

The Burke County Health Department offers a Maternity Clinic to assure the availability of adequate prenatal care to Burke County residents who are financially unable to obtain care in the private sector. This care includes patients who do not have private insurance or who are eligible for Medicaid. We want to give you high quality care from your first trimester to your fourth trimester (postpartum period).

We have an experienced staff of friendly nurses along with a local OB/GYN. Screenings for our Maternity Clinic are held on Mondays and Fridays. Patients are seen regularly on Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Deliveries are at Carolinas Healthcare System Blue Ridge – Morganton Campus (formerly Grace Hospital) unless a higher level of care is needed for the pregnant mother and/or baby.

By providing professional, compassionate care in the Maternity Clinic, the public health nurses work hard to assure a healthy pregnancy for the expectant mother and her unborn child and they strive to make this special time a rewarding one.

What the Maternity Clinic Offers

We have so much more to offer to patients at our Maternity Clinic. For example, all maternity patients are provided with education throughout their pregnancy to help them understand what changes their bodies are going through and how to take the best care of themselves and their babies.

Next, there is the OB Care Manager program which offers one on one support and resources for all patients that are eligible and enroll, up to two months after delivery.

We also have our WIC program that offers nutrition products and education to all patients that qualify to keep them and their children healthy. The WIC department is now able to provide education and services to pregnant women with gestational diabetes through our Registered Dietician.
