We are a county operated shelter, whose function is to take in stray animals from Burke County. We aim to reunite those animals with their owners, or adopt out unclaimed animals. We also educate pet owners on spay/neuter to reduce pet overpopulation.
The Burke County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division is made up of four sworn Deputies who have full powers of arrest and one non-sworn Shelter Coordinator. The division is tasked with responding to animal complaints throughout Burke County as well operating a shelter to house all animals that are picked up and/or turned in by the public.
Animal Control does not handle wildlife calls, those calls should be directed to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission at 1-800-662-7137.
