The Burke County Zoning Ordinance will undergo the first major overhaul since its adoption in 1996. The Zoning Ordinance is the official document used to regulate land use within Burke County. The goal of the Zoning Ordinance revision is to update and clarify zoning regulations, reflect current use trends and development practices, and create an illustrated and user-friendly ordinance.
The ordinance update will also include the new statewide zoning laws, Chapter 160D of the North Carolina General Statute which went into effect June 19, 2020.
The County encourages all residents, business owners, and property owners to review the draft document and submit their comments. The Community Development Department will host an open, drop-in meeting for the public to review and comment on the zoning ordinance revision on May 6, 2021 in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room at 110 North Green Street, Door E, during the following times:
9 am - 12 pm
2 pm - 4 pm
5 pm - 8 pm
